Surreal Summit

|

This piece was the first entered into museum competition in 2006. It was awarded Honorable Mention in addition to winning the Popular Prize of the Fitchburg Art Museum’s 71st Regional Exhibition. The sculpture is 41” high with a pine base measuring 17.5” x 25”. The piece was designed as a portrait of diversity – the artist challenged to combine attributes of complexity with energy flow of a thousand pieces of exotic and common woods. Ancient Southern Yellow Pine captures the translucence of the sun while mature Purpleheart anchors the design. It is a compelling work – a testimony to the artist’s care and patience of creation. Within its myriad of shapes and rich wood textures, the viewer might imagine a mystical castle atop a mountain from a faraway world in which dreams do come true.
